Janette Grey
One of Music and Munch's most frequent and popular performers will be back on Wednesday July 2nd, bringing with
her all the warmth and charm which endear her to island music lovers.
Janette Grey has been singing in the music series every year since its inception in 1966, twice as part of a
family recital, but most often as soloist. Her versatility of style ranges from the classics to Scottish
traditional songs. By popular demand, Wednesday's solo recital contains a large selection of music from her native
land.
Grey grew up in Scotland, where she studied voice and performed in both operetta and oratorio. Since moving to
B.C. she has sung with the Victoria Choral Society, the Amity Singers, the Linden Singers and on Salt Spring, with
Tuned Air, Salt Spring Singers and Women of Note. She continues to sing regularly for the residents of Extended
Care at Lady Minto Hospital and for benefit concerts, while maintaining vocal lessons with Patricia McFarlane.
Grey's accompanist on this occasion is Chris Kodaly, well known in the community as an accomplished piano
soloist, teacher and accompanist to solo artists and choirs. He most recently played with pianist Jennifer Howard
in the memorable Salt Spring Singers production of Carmina Burana.
Free music begins at All Saints' by-the-Sea at 12.10pm followed by a delicious but optional lunch.
