Classic contemporary jewellery in
silver and gold and finger pick'n good music!
Terence Warbey was born in England where he apprenticed in all phases
of metalwork skills. He began his career in jewellery design and jewellery
making while still at school. It was not until he immigrated to North
America in 1966 that he was able to realize his dream of working full-time
in jewellery design. Terry opened a small jewellery studio and shop in the
University district of Vancouver, British Columbia. After two successful
and busy years of designing, fabricating and selling his own work from the
shop, he decided to spend more time in
design and production. Within a few years, Terry's work was found in fine
galleries and shops across Canada.

In 1977, Terry took a sabbatical from intensive jewellery
production that found him in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. While
there was a ready market for his gold and silver work in the many fine
galleries in this area, he also used this time to re-kindle his interest
in playing and producing hand-built stringed instruments. The results of
his intensive study and experience was Celtic heart instruments and
concert performances featuring his own hand built instruments.
|
However, feeling that his true vocation was in jewellery
design and manufacture, Terry returned to full-time production in 1979.
Since then, Terry's workmanship and design sense has placed his work in
high regard of people seeking fine, hand made jewellery in galleries up and down the west coast and across Canada. His
work has been honored in shows at the Vancouver and Victoria art
galleries, as well as in many juried displays throughout British Columbia. |
His love of instruments and music re-born while in Santa Cruz, Terry
did take time to hand build several hundred mandolins, guitars, mountain
dulcimers, and the occasional violin, under his Celtic Heart label. These
instruments have been internationally recognized for their quality and
playability. Celtic Heart is also the title of his much acclaimed
instrumental solo CD. The CD is a collection of several traditional Celtic
tunes all played by Terry on instruments that he hand built. the music was
multi-tracked, one instrument at a time, then carefully mixed, resulting
in the sound of a well-accomplished string trio. The CD brings to life
some of the Celtic repertoire's best loved music.
This interest in music and musical instruments is hardly new. Terry has
been playing stringed instruments since he was 8 years old. He built his
first guitar when he was 11. His musical interests include Celtic,
traditional blues and slide guitar. His careful and authentic finger
picking renditions of traditional delta blues is reminiscent of the best
of the great blues men of the south. Terry has been an active participant
in the Salt Spring Island and Victoria music scenes since he moved to the
island some 29 years ago.
Terry and his family live on Salt Spring Island near Victoria, British
Columbia in the house he designed and hand built. "More and more" he says,
"I find inspiration for my work from nature and people. My British-Celtic
roots and the skills I have developed through years of intensive work and
study, along with my continuing appreciation for the beauty of the natural
wilderness that surrounds me, are all influences found in my work and
music. I am very fortunate to be able to express myself in ways that so
many people seem to enjoy and cherish."
