St. Mary Lake is on the northern end of Salt Spring Island. It is visible from the Vesuvius Bay
Road while nearing Central on the way to Ganges. The North End Road that goes north from Central goes right by the
east side of St. Mary Lake with public access near the north end of the lake with a steep hillside to the east of
the lake. The west side of St. Mary Lake is a wooded hillside. There are cottages along the north and west sides
of the lake. The area to the south of the lake is farm land. It is bigger than all the other lakes on the island
combined. The lake is home to cut throat and rainbow trout, as well as small mouth bass.
The government produced an
assessment of the water quality in St. Mary Lake in 1996.
